At the end of each academic year, Student Entertainment Events holds its annual “Art Attack,” a day-long event where students can bask in the spring weather and enjoy everything from a petting zoo and henna tattoos to a live concert to close out the night. The primary goal of Art Attack has been, since its inception, to celebrate the school year and to incite a sense of pride and unity among UMD students.

As the COVID-19 pandemic passes its one year anniversary since rearing its ugly head, SEE has taken inspiration from the first-ever Art Attack in 1983. Art Attack 2021 will be a jam-packed, week-long festival from April 26 to April 30. The itinerary will include all types of events, from DIY crafts to game shows, and each night will conclude with an outdoor movie showing and a student variety show competition. Students will be able to perform in the designated category of the night and will have the opportunity to perform at the big Friday showcase. The event will be planned in a hybrid manner, allowing students to participate whether they are at home or on campus, and to the level of their comfortability.

We understand this is not what many students are anticipating, as Art Attack has become associated with a large-scale concert. To plan Art Attack as we typically do would be irresponsible, considering the risk that large gatherings pose for the spread of COVID-19. With an ever-changing public health landscape, SEE is incredibly excited about the reimagination of this staple event, and is even more excited to bring it to life in 2021. Like a Terrapin, we continue to move forward, never back, adapting to the obstacles we encounter along our paths.
