Artistic Activism is the dynamic marriage of the creative power of the arts to move audiences emotionally and the strategic planning of activism necessary to bring about social change. With the allure and expressiveness of their words, community organizers and artist address political or social issues to reach a global audience.
In collaboration with TErps After Dark, STAMP Gallery and TOTUS join us for conversations of the intersections of art and activism. Audiences will hear from a student opener, a fellow UMD poet, Rudy Francisco, nationally renowned poetry slam artist and author, and Aja Monet, spoken word poet and co-founder of Smoke Signals Studio, a community collective dedicated to music, art, culture, and community organizing.
