DEAR WORLD
What is Dear World?
Dear World is an interactive, award-winning portrait project that explores the subtle and powerful connections between students, faculty and staff. Dear World was founded as a portrait project that unites people through pictures in their distinct message-on-skin style.
Dear world has taken over 50,000 portraits from around the world and they found that these portraits often become the first line in a story that brings people together.
Their process began simply, to ask a person to share a message about something or to someone they love. By the end of night you realize that through stories, there's actually much more that brings us together than what keeps us apart.
The Dear World photoshoot took place on Thursday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Adele's lounge. Over 200 people stopped by to share their story. Check out some of these portraits of the UMD community!

Directors Spotlight
Meet some of our current and incoming directors here at SEE and see how they told their story during the Dear World event!

Position: Office Manager Her Story: I wrote "You are my sunshine" because it's a song my grandma always used to sing to me and it just makes me happy when i think of it.

Position: Incoming Hospitality Her Story: I had “Don’t get shut in the door!” written on my arms because of an inside joke I have with my friend, Talia. On my way back to my dorm one day, I was leaving the bus, only to have the doors shut on me. I thought this was hilarious, and we always find a way to tie it into our conversations. I think a deeper (less embarrassing) meaning is when opportunities present themselves it is important to not get shut in the door or take things for granted!

Position: Incoming Tech Her Story: My story ties back to my favorite place growing up. I spent my summers for 10 years at a small summer swim club. I made all of my friends there and it has made me the person I am today. My favorite memories from this place were sitting by the pool with my friends eating blue ice pops.
